BUGS planting notes

On March 3, we worked the soil with the Boise Forestry Department's Tree Mulch. The soil has lots of clay but it was moist and it broke up easily. This is the second year that they've had a garden at the new sight. I planted peas that had been soaked, carrots from the seed packet and worked the soil a bit. The peas that grow beyond 28" or so were planted next to a trellis like structure. I took pictures of all of the peas and carrots and I'll find recipes for them for the May classes.

Greenhouse

On March 1 and 2, we planted tomatoes and other items using this system. Right now they are in a warm bathroom and we are keeping the trays moist, but hopefully not too moist. We are not using lights but we do have a heat pad under them. We have one pad so we are rotating it.

Seeds Greenhouse

These are the seeds that we planted by tray. Tray one is the top and so on down to tray 4. We lost tray one when the greenhouse tipped, so I will replant those items later.

Raised Beds

We are digging up the grass and about 6 inches of soil. We're not sure what to do yet, but the North End Nursery will charge us about 250 for a garden mix that sounds great. Naomi says use Boise Forestry's Tree Mulch, Horse Manure from her contact and some topsoil with our clay. We'll decide what to do soon as we want it ready for May 15th.

On March 3 I had a few peas from BUGS and I planted them in the NE corner of the bed.
